We're in the Finals

An Aberdeen-based media communications firm is a finalist in this year’s prestigious Association of Scottish Businesswoman (ASB) Awards.
Frasermedia Ltd is in the running for the Most Enterprising Business Award, which recognises the efforts of businesses, led by female entrepreneurs, which have identified a niche market and have moved in a new direction.

The company, founded by Pauline Cook, was launched in 2007 to deliver a full range of media based services, including media response and presentation skills training, DVD film and production and PR. The services are delivered by an in-house team of media experts ensuring clients can rely on one source for media communications.

Ms Cook started the business from home office with just one client and a laptop. The firm is now based in offices in Aberdeen’s west end, with two full-time employees and number of associates and they work with a range of clients, from small businesses up to major corporates and public sector organisations. In the past year, the firm has experienced increased growth in the PR side of the business, which saw Frasermedia focus more on this market sector.

Nominees for the Most Enterprising Business category are limited to members of ASB-affiliated clubs and Frasermedia is a corporate member of Aberdeen networking group, Connect 925. Last year, the company reached the finals for the ASB’s Young Business of the Year Award.

Managing Director Pauline Cook said: “We are thrilled to be finalists for this award and to reach the finals two years in a row is a great achievement for us. The team has worked extremely hard to build the Frasermedia brand and the business has transformed in the last year and we are fast becoming recognised as a top player in the Scottish media industry. We are honoured to be in the running for this distinction.”

Frasermedia boasts a dynamic web presence, with an interactive website, a strong social media plan using Facebook and Twitter, and a weekly company blog.

Three other female-led Scottish companies are in the running for the award with the winner due to be announced at an awards ceremony in September at Aviemore.

A journalism graduate of the University of Missouri, she worked for a number of US newspapers and magazines before moving into the PR industry.

She said: “I am thrilled to join the Frasermedia team and can’t think of a better place to be for my first job in Scotland. I look forward to applying my writing skills and past PR experience and getting to know my new clients as well as the industry here.”

PR Tips for a Rainy Summer's Day

If you are guilty of putting things off for a rainy day then you’ve no excuse with the Scottish summer weather!

Here are Frasermedia’s top ten tips for boosting your PR profile on a rainy summer’s day.
In no particular order…..

• Organise professional PR photography for your business. Good strong corporate images are great for sending out with press releases, for your website and for company brochures. Get in touch with a quality photographer and get a date in the diary.

• Spend some time looking over your website and make sure it is all up-to-date. Websites should be updated regularly so freshen up the words on your site and start that news page to keep people up to date with your business

• Get blogging – it’s a sensation that is sweeping the globe so don’t be left behind as it can be a great PR opportunity for your business. Set up a blog – it’s easier than you think - try Word Press, Blog Spot, Tumblr. Get your blog linked to your company website.

• Take a good look at your business – what exciting things are happening? You must have some news – new contract, key appointment, increase in clients, introducing new product or service? Write a press release and send it to publications that may be interested.

• Prepare a PR and marketing plan for the next six months – what can you do in the next six months to really raise your profile and market your business. Think press releases, photo opportunities, new services, mailshots, newsletters, advertising budget.

• Get branding – phone round for prices and organise some branded goods that you can send out in mailing shots or hand out to people so they remember your business. It doesn’t have to be expensive – post-it notes, pens, coasters….umbrellas!

• Look up local groups and book yourself onto some networking events. Approach relevant groups to see if you can talk to them about your area of expertise.

• Come up with an off the wall PR stunt – get creative, think about your target market and how you could grab their attention. In PR, anything is possible so let your imagination run wild while you enjoy your afternoon coffee & cakes!

• Social media – create a Facebook page and Twitter page for your business and start telling people how great you are! Also take five minutes to update your listings on websites such as Linked-In.

• If you’re too busy for all of the above then it’s time you found yourself a fabulous PR team to help you make your wishlist become a reality!!
